"The play's the thing..."

Have you ever wanted to take the helm of one of our productions? Is there a play on your bucket list that you've always wanted to stage? Are you eager to learn new leadership skills? We enthusiastically invite any and all who are interested in directing or producing a show to approach us with ideas, and we eagerly await what will be bought to the table.

The deadline for submitting proposals for our 2025/2026 season is Sunday, December 1st, 2024. This is to give the board of directors adequate time to study and consider the artistic and commercial viability of potential projects. Those which have been accepted will be announced publicly in Spring.

All proposals must meet the following criteria for consideration:

1.  Generally speaking, we aim to stage four shows per season: one Broadway style musical and one children's musical at the Aultsville Theatre, and two smaller, non-musical plays at the Seaway Valley Theatre.

2.  Anyone interested in putting forth a show proposal should contact the company president, Lise Richer, at [email protected], and/or the artistic advisor, Andy Davidson, at [email protected].

3.  All show proposals must include, but not be limited to, the following:
  • A copy of the script. (A Dropbox folder is available to submit and distribute electronic files of scripts.)
  • A personal summary of the play by the director.
  • The anticipated performance dates.
  • The number of cast members.
  • The names of the producer and the director.
  • A detailed budget including estimated revenues and expenses, costumes, set construction costs, royalties, scripts/scores, etc.
  • If a professional is needed in any capacity, it must also be noted on the proposal form with the appropriate fees added to the list of expenses.

4.  The board of directors' final decision will be based on a project's overall feasibility. All of the above, including both the production team's experience and the anticipated audience turnout, are factors in determining if a show proposal is accepted.

5.  Once a show proposal is accepted, the producer must prepare a detailed working budget within thirty days of acceptance and re-submit it for board approval. From there, an updated monthly budget must also be maintained to ensure that expenses are kept on track. It must be available upon request by the company's executive producer or their designate.
